New build eco house

When we first discussed the project with Celia and Diana they explained how they dreamed of a strikingly modern house, in which to enjoy their retirement. They searched over 100 properties before falling in love with this plot, which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Hertfordshire. Diana is a super keen gardener and has set herself the task of restoring the garden to its former glory.

The new house makes better use of the symmetry and orientation of the site, whilst the overall massing is sympathetic to the location and its neighbours

Large, south facing windows help to keep the house warm in the winter, and solar shading help to keep heat gains to a minimum in summer. The house uses natural, unfinished materials to blend in with its rural context
