Blue Suede Shoes book by Gumbo illustration collective, published by Duke Press. Using ‘Blue Suede shoes’ as a starting point, we played a game of ‘pass it on’ to produce a sequence of 12 lines of text. Through a series of word changes the story twists and turns to take you on a surreal journey into the imagination; thus Blue Suede Shoes become ‘Blue Suede Dinosaur’, transforming somehow into ‘Blue dinosaur soup’, and so on….Each artist then responded visually to these words to produce a rich mix of images.
